Strategic Policy and Economic Management Unit
The SPEMU is responsible for issues of capacity building
and technical cooperation in economic and financial management.
More specifically the Unit's responsibilities include:
- Assist the Government in the formulation of a national poverty
alleviation strategy and the design of specific projects and programmes
for poverty reduction and the attainment of the Millennium Development
Goals by 2015;
- Follow up on the Government’s poverty reduction strategy,
macroeconomic framework and medium term expenditure framework which
are crucial for economic management, resource mobilisation and capacity
building;
- Assist in addressing capacity building needs of the Government's
economic management institutions;
- Responsible for the preparation of the National Human Development
Reports; Prepare country economic reports and briefs as required
by the UNDP country office and Headquarters from time to time;
- Contribute to the preparation of the United Nations Development
Assistance Framework (UNDAF) and Common Country Assessment (CCA)
for Rwanda;
- Assist in building Government's capacity in Debt Management and
Analysis;
- Participate in other activities carried out by UNDP, through better
understanding of capacity building and technical cooperation issues
and the definition of policies and priorities in this area, such
as training and management information systems.
