UNDP Rwanda donates 35 computers to the Prime Minister’s officeKigali, 31 January 2007: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) today (Wednesday) donated 35 computers worth 61,000 US Dollars to the Office of the Prime Minister. This support is in line with the UNDP programme to support capacity building for the public sector and in particular, the services of the Prime Minister. “Providing the modern tools to key government services promotes efficiency and allow staff to adequately respond to the demand of the users of public administration’, said Alain Noudehou, UNDP Resident Representative a.i. at the handover ceremony. He commended the partnership between the Government of Rwanda and UNDP and reiterated UNDP commitment to building the capacities of government institutions. “With the equipment, the management staff of the Prime Minister’s Office will be able to work on important documents wherever they are, whether at home, at the office, or on missions abroad, etc.”, added Noudehou. They will be able to access instantly to various data but also to communicate with their supervisors and colleagues. Also, with the donated computers, the UNDP contributes to the improvement of the capacities of the Prime Minister’ Office as an institution by facilitating an institutional memory, especially the capacity to keep data and documents in computers. The 35 laptops are mainly working tools that complement individual capacities for better efficiency and more productivity.
