Stand Up And Take Action Against Poverty and for the MDGs, 17 October 2008
The Stand Up Global Campaign calls for people to join local events all over the world during the 17-19 October week-end. The purpose is to raise awareness on poverty and inequality and support the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.
The organizers Global Call for Action Against Poverty estimates 1% of the world's population is about to participate. UNCT Rwanda has supported the Campaign during the UN week campaign. A MDGs presentation was made on policies, strategies, challenges, opportunities and the state of realization of MDGS in Rwanda at the UN Association workshop at WFP Conference room (13-14 October), which was very much appreciated and was repeated on the request at the School of Finance & Banking (SFB) on17th October at the time UNHCR was doing the simulation campaign. During the two events, MDGs materials have been distributed to the participants to disseminate information on global poverty, the importance of the MDGs and the Stand Up Against Poverty Global Campaign. Other event during the weekend was the soccer game between GoR senior officials football team (Vision 2020 FC) and UN football team which held at Ferwafa Stadium on Saturday 25 October 2008 after Umugamba UN Staff participation, both events as part of MDGs Campaign. |
