Irashimwa Olivier-Sauveur of Petit Seminaire-St. Leo, aged 20, was won the best prizes in the competition. Out of 63 students that participated, 13 were given prizes including cash and school materials worth over 1.4 million.
In order to disseminate the messages on the MDG to a wider audience through the drawings, the best images were used by the UN in Rwanda for communication purposes (the 2008 calendars, the RC New Year cards, etc.) which were distributed to various stakeholders including government, donors, Civil Society and Private Sector.
The MDGs responds to the world's main development challenges and to the calls of civil society. They include Eradication of extreme poverty; achieving universal primary education; promoting gender equality & empowering women; reduce child mortality; improve maternal health; combating AIDS and other diseases; ensuring environmental sustainability and developing a global partnership for development.
