How do we Work

The UNDP Rwanda Country Office is working with the Government and other partners to respond to development challenges that Rwanda and the world are facing today. All our programmes and activities in different areas of development respond to the challenges facing the country to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) , including the overarching goal of cutting poverty in half by 2015. Our assistance framework is guided with the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) and our Country Cooperation Framework (CCF), both aligned with the priorities of the government of Rwanda as identified in the Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Strategy (EDPRS) and the Vision 2020 of Rwanda .

UNDP's role in the formulation of this crucial document is paramount: coordination and support has been provided to all major Sector Working Groups that contributed to the preparation of the strategy. The EDPRS, in conjunction with the Government of Rwanda's Vision 2020, provide the framework for all the development work in Rwanda .

By working with the government, sector working groups, and development partners, UNDP has ensured a prominent role in the creation and implementation of future development work in Rwanda .

In Rwanda , UNDP provides development support in five major areas of expertise and practice:

•  Democratic Governance

•  Poverty Reduction

•  Energy and Environment

•  HIV/AIDS

•  Aid Coordination

UNDP also supports the host country to attract and use aid effectively. In addition to the areas mentioned above, UNDP Rwanda has integrated in all its programmes and activities the protection of human rights, the empowerment of women and the promotion of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

In January 2007, Rwanda was selected as one of eight pilot countries for One UN Reform to enable the UN System to provide a more effective and coherent response to the needs of the Government of Rwanda and its Development Partners. As part of the UN Country Team, UNDP is working with other sister agencies to implement the “One UN – Delivering as One” process. This will allow the UN Country Team to deliver.
