Rural Development Support Project in Eastern Province 2006 - 2008
Background
All project interventions focus on addressing the development concerns of the district of Nyagatare. Though the district is not the poorest in the country, it is of strategic importance and was selected by the Government of Rwanda for the reintegration of demobilized soldiers and returning refugees. The project intends to contribute to the improvement of the living conditions of the rural population of Nyagatare District, by helping the local authorities in the implementation of the development plans of their respective districts through targeted special interventions:
a.to improve food security ;
b. to promote income generating activities ;
c. to enhance sustainable improvement of access to and availability of drinking water
OBJECTIVES
To contribute to the improvement of the living conditions of the rural population of Nyagatare District.

expected OUTPUTS
1. Administrative Capacities of Nyagatare District Authorities Supported; Output 2. Strengthened institutional capacity of the District in Food Security and provision of food storage facilities;
3. Improved Productive Capacities and Management Structures of Cooperatives Operating at District Level;
4. Improved access to and management of potable water systems at District Level.
